We moved into Casa Malena in January 2016 and found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable place to live. The building well maintained and very clean. Having Malena, the landlady, living in the building is a great advantage; not only does this ensure that any issues are dealt with promptly, she is a great resource especially for those new to Ecuador. Not only is she completely bilingual but she is also very familiar with helping us “Gringos” navigate the process of moving to Ecuador.

The location in Downtown suites us very well; Marisical Lamar is a relatively quite street with little traffic at night, but it is close to all the amenities. A main city market is only three blocks away and Park Calderon, Cuenca’s main park, is only two blocks away. With plenty of shops and good restaurants nearby Cuenca’s charm is at your door.

We first visited Cuenca in April 2016 and fell in love with the city. At the time of our visit we also met Malena and were introduced to Casa Malena. We decided that we needed to look no further. Both Cuenca and Casa Malena suits our needs perfectly. Malena is a wonderful person and worked with us over the months and in October of 2016 we became residents of both the beautiful city of Cuenca and Casa Malena. Casa Malena offers one of the best locations in Cuenca, in the heart of historic El Centro, and just a couple of blocks from Parque Calderon, the flower market, and some of the best shopping Cuenca has to offer. Malena maintains an immaculate building which is full of light, very secure, and has an expansive rooftop patio and garden area. The apartments are modern and very comfortable for long-term tenants. Fluent in English, Malena is always helpful to her tenants needing assistance in banking, immigration issues, medical needs, and personal concerns. She treats her tenants like family and provides a great community for expats who are looking for a ‘home’ as well as an apartment.
